The Art Portal

Posted by newbienalwayswillbe - November 5th, 2009

So, I submitted a bunch of my artwork to the art portal recently and seriously underestimated how harshly I was going to be disappointed. I started to notice that a lot of my submissions were getting pretty damn low scores, but there was no critiques or reviews to explain why the low scores.. I'm not about to say that I am some incredible artist, but I seriously have gotten a couple votes of 0.. I'm thinking I probably broke some unwritten art portal etiquette because I've never been so self conscious about my art abilities. I wish someone would kindly tell me what I've done wrong so I can fix it..

Hey.

On Newgrounds, people don't vote the score they think your piece is worth. They vote 5 to bump it up, and 0 to bump it down.

Try not to let it get to you. As an artist you must keep going in the face of criticism! I for one enjoy your art and hope to see more.

Keep posting up your art, and I'll see you around.

Damn, that sucks. Thanks for the info, if I had known that, I probably wouldn't have been so confused and frustrated. Also, thanks for the encouragement, don't worry, there will be much more of my art here soon. Maybe in smaller doses this time, though.

NG critics are like the weather. they're always there, usually annoying, but you should never let them stop you. besides, what Alvin said, most of the votes aren't in the name of actual criticism, it's just people voting down shit that is in the way of their own shit, which of course to their perspective is highly superior work no matter how awful it really is. your stuff rocks. i have a piece favorited.
